Precision Agriculture Discussion Groups
The GRDC has recently funded Southern Precision Agriculture Australia (SPAA), an independent Precision Agriculture organisation, to provide training and education for two Precision Ag groups in the Riverine Plains region, one in NSW and the other in Victoria. The aim of the project is to increase the adoption of PA by growers, beyond the use of GPS guidance and autosteer systems. They will be using localized grower groups such as Riverine Plains to provide training, discussion and trial work to meet local needs and demonstrate the concepts and technology at a local level.
The group will meet 3–4 times per year with participants choosing to attend one or all of the meetings depending upon their level of PA experience.
In October 2009 Riverine Plains Inc members had the opportunity to attend header set-up workshops for yield mapping, one at Dookie and the other at Rand.
In March 2010 variable rate workshops took place and provided training on phosphorous replacemnt, creating prescription maps, making variable rate happen, yield data processing and phosphorous removal maps based on yield zones.
Groups have identified at least two growers who have suitable gear and layers of data for doing some trial work. Two more workshops will take place later in the year including a farmwalk.
Please contact Fiona Hart if you are interested in being part of the PA group. Phone: 03 5744 1713 or email info@riverineplains.com.au
